Question regaurding DVI to HDMI cable

I have some HD clips on my laptop, and I want to watch them on my HDTV.

So I assume, that if I have a HDMI jack on the tv, I can get a DVI to HDMI cable. But my laptop doesnt have DVI.

BUT... I have a DVI-VGA adapter.

question is: will it still look good on the TV, or will there be a huge difference?

VGA is an analog signal. I don't think you can go VGA->DVI->HDMI, HDMI is digital and the DVI to HDMI assumes a digital DVI, not analog. But I've been wrong before.
