Question Regarding Veritas Backup Exec 10 (Windows Servers)

Figured I could pick some peoples brains non the less...

I currently have a Quantum M1500 Tape Library and here is my situation. I have all the partitions set but I would like Backup Exec to use the tapes in the correct order.

Here is my Current Partition Setup:

M1500 [0001..0003]
M1500 [0004..0006]
M1500 [0007..0007]
M1500 [0008..0009]
M1500 [0010..0010]
M1500 [0011..0013]
M1500 [0014..0016]
M1500 [0017..0019]
M1500 [0020..0021]

Now is there a way within each partition I can make it use the tapes in order, or even better use the tapes in the order of the barcodes present on the media? I can do this with NetBackup (obviously their HIGH END Enterprise Solution) but I was wondering if it can be done in Backup Exec 10.

Thanks in Advance.

Have you tried their livechat support on the website? Even the pre-sales guys should be able to help you.

my uncle works somewhere in Veritas... i emailed him your question, i'll post again if he responds with an informative answer. Not sure what he does there though, so could be a dead end.

Eh, I have more faith in their knowledge base then their phone support... and I couldn't find it there...

have you tried manual quick erase within that partition? BE will take the oldest quick erased tape first, iirc.

i know it sucks you gotta do it manually.

Only time I do quick erases is on NEW media b/c it comes with a 98GB capacity until formatted then it goes to 149. While doing the quick erase on the partitions for that reason YES it does take the tapes in order... but for some reason when writing to media the damn robot like to pull fvckin random tapes from the partition.
