Meant to ask Anand himself but didn't want to bother him before getting feedback on the forum.
On the SoC front, new chips are about to enter the market during summer and fall of this year, Qualcomm's new SoC, Tegra 3, etc.
Few months ago, Hitachi announced that they are working on a 1280x720 resolution IPS display, intended for the smart phone market.
Can we reasonably expect a 1280x720 (or 1368x766) resolution smart phones by the end of this year?
I know that increasing resolution somewhat reduces the performance gain that these new platforms offer, wondering if the increased resolution would have to much impact on performance, rendering the operation at 720p useless?
I am looking to purchase a new phone. Upon hearing news of the upcoming solutions, I postponed the purchase to see how this SoC battle plays out.
Through my carrier, I am eligible for a full discount on a new smart phone starting in November 2011. Prior to these new developments I was considering buying outright a newer device. If new models integrate, for example the Tegra 3, I would purchase one outright if they aren't offered by my carrier.
Another thing is that the annual Nexus refresh by Google takes place every December. How likely is it for the next Nexus to integrate Tegra 3 as SoC for the upcoming model?
Thanks in advance.
