I'm travelling around Europe at the moment. I've heard very good things about Prague. Is English necessary to get by there?

I think what he is asking is if he speaks only English can he get by in Prague.

Or another way, is there a sufficient population in Prague that can speak English so he can get by.

I don't know the answer to that question but I would also like to know because I might be traveling there sometime soon.

That's what I figured he meant - just funny to me that the OP fails at using the language he is asking about. Prague is definitely worth visiting, I've been there twice. Like any of the major tourist spots in Europe, you can easily get by speaking only English. Take the time to learn a few Czech phrases - please, thank you, etc., don't act like a typical American tourist (loud, drunk, annoying) and you'll be fine.

That's the exact opposite of what you asked: "Is English necessary to get by there?"

But, if the question is whether English is enough to get by, then the answer is definitely yes. I was actually there about two months ago, but the fact that I am fluent in Russian made it a bit easier.

Regardless, English tours are plentiful and every restaurant in the center of the city has an English menu. Just make sure to stay somewhere near the old town square, instead of on the outskirts, so that you can be within walking distance of every major attraction.

Given your phrasing of that question, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the outcome is irrelevant, as you barely speak English now.

Well one of them is a twit named lizardboy who trolls internet forums for a sport. So it didn't really count. Thanks.

Wow - a coherent sentence. Who helped you?

(although to be entirely accurate, it should just be "sport" not "a sport"...but nice try there champ)
