Question regarding the PCI-e slots.

I have Asus A8N SLI Premium. It has 4 PCI-e slots. Two are 16x, one is 4x, and one is 1x.

Now if I only use one graphic card, can I use the second 16x slot with a 1x PCI-e add-on card?

 
I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but I believe all PCI-e slots are downward compatible, so you should be able to use a 8x, 4x, or 1x card in a 16x slot.
