Question regarding Remote Desktop and Security

Hi Yall, quick Noobness question.

I want to enable Remote Desktop, and use the web feature to access my system from somewhere else via the web. In WinXP, this is doable. Now, aside from just setting a strong password, and having the system behind a router (With the appropriate Ports open), is there anything else I can do?

I know that anyone that wants to get in, always will. But I mean, that's just not really much protection at all. The password alone can be cracked by the programs found on the web. It's just that I'd like to think there I had some sort of decent design in place.

The place from WHERE I want to connect might always be different. A friend's place, work, etc.

Are there any other programs that might offer better protection? (Free is good.)

Thanx.

The protection depends on what you decide to use for protection as an addon to the remote.

Whether to use Remote Desktop (RTP) or a regular remote program might depend in the way you are using it and who is on the other side.

I use RDT between spots that are often connecting and on the other side there is someone who understand how it work.

Otherwise I use Ultr@VNC. For security purpose, and to reduce the load on the system I want the remote out of the picture once the session is terminated. Ultra@VNC and few other VNC variant provide this capacity.

Ultr@VNC is a Free Comprehensive Solution, it provides: Remote Control, File Transfer, and Chat between LAN computers or over the Internet. Takes only few minutes to set it up.
