I just got my new T-Bird 700 in. I am curios as to what the average keys per second schould be. I am getting anwhere between 1.12 - 1.18 mkeys on average. Things runnin in the background are ICQ,WarFTP, Creative Labs Live! software and intellmouse software

Thanks

It's way low.... you should be more like 2.43 MKeys/sec.
Win2K tries to load a bunch of crap that is a key-killer.
Do you have any energy saving, or screensavers going?

I have the monitor kick off after 30 minites. Other than that, there is no power saving kicking on that I know of.

Yep, the Live! software is in truth almost useless, as the system will load the various components as it actually needs them, and the Creative Launcher takes an almost constant 25-35% of the CPU (on my system), just to be sitting there doing nothing.. :|

ICQ will also steal a bit of the CPU, but nothing compared to the Creative Launcher..

This works on Win98; please correct me if it doesn't work on Win2K:

Go to Start, Run, and enter msconfig as the program to run. Then select the Startup tab and uncheck all the things you don't want to run at startup. 🙂

I can give you another method that I think should work on WinNT/2K, but it's so stupid I'll wait and see if somebody else has an answer.

Ya msconfig does not work on w2k I have tried before. I am feeling preety stupid I schould no this 😱

I just removed them myself from the Win2K registry.

They are in HKLocalMachine/software/windows/currentversion/run

delete the line for anything you don't want to load next bootup

I don't assume responsibility, so be careful. There isn't an UNDO.

JonB,
There is a "Undo" of you backup the registry file first, then you can restore if you don't goof things up too severely. 😀

Well I removed WarFTP, didn't really need it anymore and the creative except for the drivers and I am not up to 2.2mkeys a sec.
Thanks
