question regarding older VIA Apolo Pro133A motherboard (socket 370)

okay short and sweet.

Got a motherboard, socket 370, VIA694TAS chipset (PIII, Tulatin, etc.)
According to manual and bios AGP 4X speeds supported.

However, while in windows98, I can only get a AGP 2X speed with my GF3 video card.

Any ideas as to why?
I've installed VIA 4-in-1 service pack and that didn't help

LMK what your thoughts are

I'm reading the AGP speed right from the display tab under the GeForce3
Also, AIDA32 reports the same thing - AGP 2x

Known defect with VIA 694 chipsets, I'm afraid. I forget which driverset flags it, but setting AGP4X on those with the newer nV/ATI series cards = instacrash.

AGP2X doesn't lose much vs AGP4X, especially not on an older system where you'll be memory-limited anyways.

Know from experience - had same setup. 😛
