Question regarding Laptop RAM

I have a Dell Inspiron 7000. I was looking online to see what type of RAM it takes. TUrns out, there are 3 types of Inspiron 7000 models. One takes SDRAM at 100mhz. One of the other models takes it at 66mhz.

I called Dell tech support, and they tell me that my machine will take the 100mhz RAM, though it says 66 online. If I put the faster RAM in the laptop, will it work? I know with PCs, RAM is backwards compatible, but was not sure in the sense of laptops. I just dont want to mess anything up. Am I correct that it is backwards compatible?

I have noticed that computer sales men are not tech oriantated.

I know that DDR 400mhz will work with laptop that uses 333mhz, same with 266mhz working with 333mhz system. Ram speed will be governed by the slowest stick of ram or chipset support speed.

If you know the model number, try using the Crucial.com memory selector since they guarantee it will work.

IMO that's the best way!
