Question regarding hard drive to USB 2.0 speeds

I currently transfer at 4.8MB/s from my hard drive (SATA 7200rpm drive) to a USB stick (Kingston 8GB) at around 4.8 MB/s. This seem awfully slow to me. It starts transferring at 20MB/s then quickly drops to said number, is this normal?...can I speed it up?

Yeah you'll probably see different speeds when writing to the USB stick compared to reading from the USB stick. Too bad the USB sticks don't include class ratings like the SD memory cards. Although, you could get a high-performance SD memory card, then stick it in a USB reader, and increase performance that way?

OK, thanks. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I could do to speed it up.
