Hi,

Would I be able to run a IDE hard drive and DVD writer off of this board?

There doesn't seem to be any mention of IDE support on Gigabyte's site - wouldn't excluding something like this be a bit silly?

Thanks. :)

According to the web page for that MB:

1 x UDMA ATA 100/66/33 connector

So you could, but one would have to be set to slave.

I often missed things on their website, because all the sections (overview, specs, etc) all look the same. It seems their web site is slow to react a lot too, so that doesn't help.

If they are using an external controller to provide the pata port, does that mean you need drivers to make it operate? This seems like the kind of thing that can make installing windows really irritating. For instance: you boot from the CD, it does the first phase of the install, but when it reboots to finish, it doesn't have a driver so it can't see the cd drive to finish the installation. Pressing F6 and giving it a floppy with the driver or integrating it with nlite would probably prevent this, but it's not the kind of thing I would want to have to do.
