Hi everyone, thanks for reading.

Presently the Pentium M processors are not 64 bit compatible. I'm thinking about buying a Dell inspiron 6000 and was wondering if it would be possible to throw a new 64 bit processor in this machine when Vista comes out? Does anyone know if this will be possible? Any info on this would be great. Thanks!

No, that will not be possible.

Intel is moving to an entirely new platform with Napa. The first post-Dothan chip, codenamed Yonah, will be 32-bit only and feature a number of great changes. However it will be on a different pin configuration and different motherboard. Merom, the chip scheduled after Yonah, WILL finally have 64-bit support.

If you want 64-bit now, go Turion. If you want 64-bit Intel, either wait or just buy a cheapie for now until you can dump some cash into a Merom based system.
