Question regarding Cache on Conroe systems.

I'm looking at getting a Conroe system here shortly. I'm wondering what the difference is between the 2x2mb L2 cache as opposed to the 2x1mb cache on the lower end models. What does it mean exactly, and what does it mean in terms of performance?

Thanks.

It's not 2x2 or 2x1. It's 4 and 2, shared between the 2 cores. The 4MB version has a pretty big advance over the 2MB when doing intense calculations and encoding.

I saw that generally it doesn't make a huge difference (iirc it was 3 to 7% on avg), but I don't know where I saw that and it could have been only for certain operations.
