I got an XP2600+ (333FSB) . I was reading the manual, and it says you can use any DDR Ram in the board. There is an addendum though, which says:

"When your system runs at 333mhz CPU FSB, the memory will be automatically set to DDR333 regardless of the type of memory module (DDR400/DDR333)

We do not recommend that you use DDR266 memory module, this is to aviod system instability"

Now, when I bought the board, it said it supported DDR266, but it seems due to the revision of the board, it wants 333. Would I be able to put DDR266 in this board? Would it cause damage to the CPU? Any ideas?

The point in case is that the VIA chipsets can run the RAM faster than the CPU, but not slower.

You _can_ run DDR266 RAM in this board alright, but only when using a CPU with FSB200 or 266.
