Question regarding AMD single core -> dual core

Silly question I'm sure, but I don't need to reinstall windows if I want to go from a AMD 64 single core (939) -> a X2 (939) do I?

I'm just changing the CPU, every other component will be the same.

Thanks.

Nope, no need to re-install. It should just detect the dual core, and start using it. Quickest way to check, is to open up task manager, and see if there are 2 cpu graphs. You can also look in device manager, look under computer, and it should say ACPI Multiprocessor PC.

I read somewhere that be sure that windows is up to date. When I went to dual core and checked task manager it only showed 1 core and when I used a temp checker it showed only 1 core. I reformatted my harddrive and heard later that if I was up to date, I wouldn't have had to reformat.

My 2 cents
