Question Regarding a AC to DC adapter

hi im currently working on a external DYO watercooling box. However due to limited space i dont want to fit a PSU inside. I was wondering, could i go out to radio shack, buy a 12V AC-DC adapter, and manually wire the fans and pump to it directly?

There would be at most 6 12cm fans with 2 pumps. EAch pump is rated at 1.5A while the each fan is rated at .15A


So im thinkn if i went out and picked up a DC adapter raited at 12V with a little over 6A, could i straight wire the entire thing? instead of having to drop in a small PSU?

Yes it should work fine as total current is about 3.9 amperes at 12 volts.

Ohms Law:

Voltage = Resistance X Current
Current = Voltage / Resistance
Resistance = Voltage / Current

What you need to figure is the parrallel current draw for all of those devices at 12 volts.

Components in a parallel circuit share the same voltage: ETotal = E1 = E2 = . . . En
Total resistance in a parallel circuit is less than any of the individual resistances: RTotal = 1 / (1/R1 + 1/R2 + . . . 1/Rn)
Total current in a parallel circuit is equal to the sum of the individual branch currents: ITotal = I1 + I2 + . . . In.

Yes, it can be done but not cheap. Have you thought of just locating the 2nd PSU outside the case? Or better yet converting the PSU into a DC voltage Power Supply? You can do it. Google and you'll be surprise how many people do it and show the steps to do it.

You might be able to find a Notebook power supply that is 12 VDC out also.
