Question Re: SLI Motherboards/Cards

I was just wondering, in regards to an SLI motherboard. Say you get two PCIe video cards we'll just say two 7800GT's for this example. (could be any two identical PCIe cards nvidia or ATI....

If I didn't want to use the SLI features, will both cards run by them selves at full speed? Giving me 4 monitor jacks and the possibility of quad screens?

Well yes, you can run each card by themselves (there you will disable one card) but not run both separately without doing SLI . . .

At least that's to the best of my knowledge . . .

SO I can't use an SLi board to give me two seperate video cards, for running 4 monitors? IS there a motherboard that has 2 x16 slots but not for SLI?

No you are mistaken. If you dont want to enable SLI then dont. It will give you "Dual Video" which is what you are looking for.

In which case, look at the DFI-NF4 Ultra which is cheaper than the SLI but still has both x16 style slots (While one only runs at 8x though, but no biggie)
