Question: P4 w/ DDR or Rambus?

Hey guys I was just wondering which you would choose? I was looking into an XP but the P4 pricing is so tempting right now (2.4B). I also see there are a few dual ddr mobos out so that gives me two RAM options now.

Well tell me which you would rather have and why?

BTW- All I want to do on this rig is GAME and watch pr0n.....and surfing AT of course. NOTHING else
This will be my first rig so I dont know if I want to o/c.

Thx all!

I would get rambus. The PC1066 is faster than pc3200 and some pc3500 of DDR. You can get the 850e chipset from intel, or wait for the SiSr658 chipset coming out in a week or two.

If you plan to keep this sytem for the long haul, I suggest going Rambus.
If this is short term system that you'll be upgrading within 8 months, go DDR.

hi i also nid suggestions for thiis... planing for the best system for my P4 2.53.. i was planning for RDRAM setup but decided against it coz it seems RDRAM is dying out... im planning to get the new GRANITE BAY system with DUAL-DDR... but ive read somewhere that future setup will use RDRAM? is this true? i thought RDRAM was gone? now im rili confused to what system to choose... 🙁 pls help...

Define upgrade. Upgrading processor? RAM? Mobo?

Intel will no longer support RDRAM with future chipsets, but SiS will. In fact, Abit has a board planned for the SiS RD chipset.

Well, if you go with the 16-bit RD modules like with used with the Gigabyte 8IHXP or the Abit TH7-II, then you will probably be assed out, but if you go with the 32-bit modules, like with used with the Asus P4T533 (Non -C), then you will probably have some life left with the upcoming SiS RD chipset like I mentioned above.

What's wrong with Rambus? It's faster. Granite Bay, a 'newer' technology, only matches the performance of the 850E. Nothing wrong with it, although it may be a bit overpriced.

Watch what you say in here, Other people have different opinions..... I prefer a long term system and a very stable one at that. So, Rambus or DDR is and will be a good choice. Just depends what "you" prefer. Just a question, have you ever had Rambus, Yeild?🙂

All these chipsets......all these processors.....all this RAM........make hulk MAD!

Cant they make this crap easier? Im a n00b to computer building and I feel like pulling my hair out with all the different solutions.....and I NEED a computer like yesterday!

You cant go wrong with either. How much do you want to spend? Are you a gamer? Things like this are the first questions. Keep reading, do some research and then you can come up with a solution. Don't just take one persons opion. You have a choice, and time. Make good with both.😉

In my first post I explain what I need this comp for 🙂

As far as spending goes. Dual DDR will run roughly the same for a P4 or Athlon setup. Rambus changes that picture dramatically.
Ive been looking into a computer for a few months and have done a ton of research. The problem is, the more i read (and learn)the MORE confused I get. That in combination with all the "new stuff" coming out is making it even worse.
