Question on XP vs Win 7 clock rates.

While trying to get Crysis running on my new Win 7 Ultimate (64 bit) install, I found that I had to drop the core/mem clock rates (from what I use in my XP boot) to get the game to work. I'm running a HIS 4870 w/ 512MB. In my XP boot, I'm running Cat 9.11 with a gaming profile that sets the core/mem clocks at 770/905; I set the fan at 40%. I can play Crysis just fine - no artifacts, no problems. Now, my Win 7 boot has Cat 9.12 hotfix installed, but to get Crysis to work I had to drop the core/memclocks to 700/790 (fan at 40%) to get Crysis to run. In fact, if I set the clocks to my XP settings, the driver crashes without running any games. I ran the test feature in CCC at my XP settings and got the black screen of death and had to reset my PC. I'll admit that I haven't done exhaustive reading on ATI cards and Win 7, but I haven't seen much on this. Is this a normal occurance? Am I missing something? I asked this question on another forum and nobody had any info on this.

I'd imagine it has something to do with either (or at the same time) different driver architecture from 32bit to 64bit as well as the OS. Maybe it just can't do it. Also maybe your rig is working harder and case ambient temp has gone up?

Just my 0.02c :p

I don't think case temps are an issue. The thing is that this card advertises a core clock rate of 750. That's a big part of why I'm confused. I do need to see how much further I can goose the clock rates, but needing that much of a reduction seems odd to me.
