Ok i just got a new dell laptop and it has windows me on it, so when u go into my computer properties and in the first portion u see

registered to:

xxxx-oem-xxxx-xxxxx

How do u change it so that my name or some sort of recognition is there. cause i want to allow my laptop to files share with the win2k box i have.

Hope that helps and thnx to all that reply.

The 'Registered To' name doesn't do anything other than put a "Nametag" on the installation of Windows. In order to share files with another computer, you will need to install File and Printer Sharing for (Microsoft or Netware) Networks as well as a network client and protocol. Then, in the Network Properties page, there is a tab labeled Identification. On that tab, you can set your computer name and workgroup. The workgroup must be the same on both computers in order for them to easily see each other. Once you have enabled File Sharing, right-click on the drives/directories you want to share in Windows Explorer, and click on Sharing, then click on the button next to "Share Drive As" and enter what you want the drive or directory to show up as on the network, then select the permissions you want to allow for the share (full or read-only) and on the Win2K system, in the Permissions properties add the user account (name you log in with) on the WinME laptop as an account allowed to access the share.

Once you've done it once or twice, it's much easier to do than it is to type 😉 but as long as I haven't missed anything, you should be good to go...
