question on video card upgrade

i currently have a evga 6600gt from about 2 years ago. the card is beginning to show its age. do you guys think that the 8600gts will improve my framerates in games such as FEAR, GRAW, and Test Drive Unlimited. or will it be a better deal to get a 8800gts 320mb. i want to game at 1680x1050

Get an X1950XT as those r DX9 games anyways and save yourself a few $ vs getting an 8800GTS 320.

but i want it to be futureproof for dx10 games as well, cuz i probably can't upgrade until like 2 or 3 years later, and what do you think about the 8600gts

An 8600GT won't be future proof as it'll be too slow for DX10 games. The 8800GTS 320 will be able to play about any game better than an X1950XT but for $100 more. And the way DX10 is hurting the 8800GTX atm it may be safe to wait for refresh products if you wanna be able to enjoy those DX10 games.
