I'm going to buy the TOSHIBA DVD ROM, 16X DVD, 48X CD ROM, model SD-M1502.

My question is this. I'm keeping my system cheap. Would a Duron 750 be sufficient to view DVD movies? The RAM will be 128 megs, and there will be a 30GB 5400rpm HD.

I'm not asking for any recommendations on any other configuration, or any substitute components. All that I want to know is if my cheap-a$$ system will be capable of utilizing the DVD drive, yes or no?

Yes it would. I'm using a toshiba 16x with a duron 700 and the playback is as smooth as silk. I'm using power dvd with it. I'm also getting a second dvd player for my other system but am looking at cheaper dvd-roms than the toshiba. Does anyone know about Afreey?

It'll work perfectly. A Duron 750 might not be the fastest right now, but it doesn't mean it's slow. The minimum for PowerDVD is like a P2-300...

yeah, i don't mean to sound obnoxious, but I'm sure you know what i mean when i say that once a thread hops down a bunny trail, it takes off in a whole other direction. It's happened too many times when i asked about particular products, then other people jump in and recommend other items that i'm not pursuing. thank you fellows for your quick responses.

just be aware it wont allow you to rip encrypted (protected) DVDs ar speeds above x2. which is a pain and also, defines the idea of having a fast dvd-rom drive if you will only use it at x2? i would get myself a x12 drive or a pioneer, although i love toshiba.
