Question on tie pins for the fashion challenged

I'll be attending a wedding tomorrow evening and have a question on the correct placement of a tie pin. I have a nice pin I was given and would like to wear it without getting hassled by the fashion police.

What's the correct point on a tie to pin it?

honest recommendation?
don't wear one.
To make people look dorkey in movies, they put them in a short sleeve shirt with a tie tided too short, and a tie pin.
For example:
Nasa agents
Tom Hanks as an FBI agent in "Catch me if you can"
Cops
etc....
