If you hold a college degree, does that affect how you'll be drafted? Will they make you hold a gun and battle in the fields or will they have you do the "behind-the-scenes" work?

I'm curious after looking at the draft thread.

By the sounds of it you seem to think a college degree would put you above holding a gun.

college degree helps with being an officer, but that probably will not happen. My uncle got drafted so he joined instead and became a helo pilot, which was a warrant officer for him.

I read that all college graduates will not be given weaponry. Instead, you'll be forced to carry a large book with a bullseye painted on it, and it will be strapped to your ass.

As I understand it, if your drafted there really not looking for many support people. Your butt is most likely to end up on the line, degree or not. If you sign up before hand with a degree then you can try to get trained to be an officer but they don't do that for draftees.

The above does assume you don't have friends or family with political pull....

Actually no. I've discussed this with friends while I was in high school.

The whole purpose of The Draft is to supply cannon fodder for the front lines. Don't worry too much, though, not everybody gets killed. Most only get their arms and legs blown off.

I was being sarcastic. I get tired of everybody wanting or thinking they deserve a cushy job in the rear area while somebody else has to face the bullet.

Sound about right, unless you move to Canada.

Congress would set the rules for a draft if they enacted one

so write your congressman/woman/person and ask them how they would do it

or write charles rangel and ask him, since he is hip on the idea
