i have a home directory setup on a Windows XP machine, ie) basically shared folder on server, and the users My Documents folder points to this \\server\sharedfolder path, if i delete a file it is removed entirely and there seems to be no way of getting file back from a UNC path. maybe its the limitation of the server operating system, but anything deleted on from a shared folder is gone entirely.
Does anyone know anything clever you can do to the operating system to have deleted files go into the recycle bin on clients PC??
we are not using Windows 2003 server though.

As far as I know, when you delete a file over the netwok, it's gone. Unless there is a way to retrieve it from the hard drive with one of those data retrieval companies. I think that is one benefit of Server 2003. I think that's what shadow copy does. I haven't done anything with that on my server yet.

I have the same problem at my house; I have just learned to double check what I'm deleting.
