Question on setting up a VPN

I want to have a VPN between my house and 2-3 other houses. Mainly will probably use it for xbox system link and some file sharing. I was talking to a friend and he said some soho 6 boxes would do the job at about $250 a piece. Iwas wondering if there are any other ideas. 250 a house is not too bad so we're willing to spend around that.

if u dont have a spare pc. just for a VPN router, hmm canadian prices, looking at 130 +

i now that the dlink- Di-804vup is around 150-200

Linksys makes two routers which would work perfectly for this: BEFSX41 and BEFVP41 (there may be others as well). I'm using the BEFSX41 for a client for a site-site VPN and it works flawlessly! The main difference between the two is the number of VPN tunnels supported. For 3 houses either one will work, but for more than 3 you would be better of with the BEFVP41 since it supports more than two tunnels. Otherwise, do set it up in a circle like this

A=B
| |
C=D

Where A connects to B & C, B connects to A& D, etc.

Thanks I'll look into the linksys ones as well😀

I'd consider a spare pc, but allready have too many ones running here😛 If I add another one it'd ba a smoothwall box😛

K I'm looking into the BEFVP41 and have a quick question. One of my friends houses is on a dynamic ip. Is there anyway to use a dynamic ip with these? His lease is a few weeks so it wouldn't be to bad to have to keep changing it, but would like to avoid that if possible. Was thinking I could use dyndns or something, but from screenshots it looks like you can only add an IP.
