Question on restoring registry.

I have had some ongoing problems with my system registry which require that I eventually format my hd and reinstall windows. Believe me I have tried everything else. In the interim my question is this: When windows "restores" the registry after a failed reboot or cold boot, where does it get the backed up copy from? Also, how can I make it restore a specific copy that I have backed up myself.
Right now when it restores the registry, it restores a copy that does not have many of the most current entries so I end up reinstalling various progs.
Thx for any help.

Here is the best way to fix your registry without too much problem. Go to Start , Run, and then type in Scanregw.exe and then hit Ok. Windows will fix your registry for you. Post back and let me know how you make out.
