If you take two 100GB drives and set them up in a RAID 0 configuration. Will the volume look like a 100GB or a 200GB volume?

Also is this setup worth it when it comes to video editing?

I was thinking of getting a pair of 200GB drives and running them in RAID0. I would still keep my 40GB drive as the boot drive. But use the RAID 0 drives for editing.

It will look like a 200gb volume.

You would probably see a difference with your large video files. Don't use the RAID0 stripe for data storage though, since you will lose your data if either drive fails.

I have a machine with 2x160Gb drives in RAID1 that I keep backups of my important files. I was going to use this strictly for editing and storage of the files. If they go down I can pull backups of them from the server.

thank you for the information.

btw 1 more question. Will it make any difference if I dont use the RAID0 drives for my boot drive?

For video editing then you might want to use a RAID1 or 5 set up this way you won have to worry about loosing your information if a drive fails.

Not worried if the drives fail since I am backing up the drives to a server with a RAID 1 config.
