Question on PC2100 vs PC2700

Sorry of this is not the proper place to ask, but this is the closest I could find to a Memory forum here.

I'm planning to build a new PC based on a KT333 board (not sure which one yet, probably Giga-Byte GA-7VRX V.2.0). Are memory timings seperate from, or tied to the FSB? I don't plan to overclock the CPU, so that will run at 266 FSB. Will the memory bus be limited to 266 as well, or can I run that at 333 and get 2700 RAM?

Thanks!

You could run the RAM asynchronously with a 4:5 mem ratio (133FSB:166RAM), but that would only boost performance by about 3%, so you might as well just get some PC2100 and run the board at 266. Actually, if you get some good PC2100 like maybe some Crucial, you could possibly still run the memory at 166. Btw, I think that General Hardware would be the more appropriate forum for memory questions that aren't OC related (or tied to a specific mobo, in which case the mobo forum would be best).

Thanks for the RAM info & pointer to General hardware (completely missed that category, too tired last night.)
