Question on OC and Unlocking pipelines?

Ok... so pretty much once again its about the 6800GS, i heard that its only worth the value if you unlock and OC... I would like to know what are the chances of destroying the card if I want to OC it to 425mhz (i know its more than capable) and unlocking the pipelines? I'm thinking its either I do this and screw warranty over, OR i get the BFG baby that is on preorder

You're talking about the AGP version here...? Unlocking should in theory be possible, as it's a NV40, but you'll have the exact same chances like you had with a 6800NU... You might be lucky, but you mightn't as well...

IMO you're not going to get far beyond the 425MHz... That was about the limit for overclocking 6800GT's and Ultra's...

EDIT: Just use RivaTuner for unlocking, it's non-harming to your card or its warranty, as you can easily set it back to the defaults... Unlock first, then overclock...

Well i'm sure it unlocks... and I know that peopel have pushed it beyond 500mhz, i'm just asking about the possible damages... anyways thx

The PCIe version gets very high clocks... But it's based on another "smaller" core (NV42 110nm vs. NV40 130nm)... Unlocking the PCIe version is impossible, as that core never had 16 pipes to begin with... 🙁

Wentelteefje, I just got the BFG 6800gs today and you say that RivaTuner doesn't void the warranty??? Are you sure, cause that would freakin' rock!
