Question on Nec 20WMGX2

I will receive the monitor as a gift from my uncle, living in US. However, I live in Canada so I may have to pay duty. I was wondering if anyone can tell me in which country the monitor is manufactured so that I have an idea how steep the bill will be. Any input will be appreciated!

I have the European model, the 20WGX2, it's basically the same but without HDCP and the soundbar thingy. Mine says "Made In China" if that helps.

Canadian duties are usually around 12 %, regardless of the country of origin. They will then add the 6% GST on top of that.

i think the rason the european model doesnt have hdcp or the sound bar / tv tuner is because therse taxes on tvs (and it counts as a TV with the tuner on it) in european countries, like the UK

You are right. And I have also seen on LesNumeriques.com and Hardware.fr that even the presence of a DVI input on a monitor qualifies it as a TV set. That's why some models are VGA-only in Europe while being available with DVI in the rest of the world.
