Hi,i'm new here.Nice to meet you guys.
I was planning on upgrading my comp. And i saw core duo's performance and low power consumption and i thought i'd go that way.
But since it doesn't have 64 bit support,i'll switch it for the merom once it comes out.
So is the Aopen i975x socket 478 mobo compatable with merom?
And is this a worthwhile upgrade at all?
Thanks in advance.

Well the rumor is that the Aopen board will support Merom, and it most likely will, but there is no way to be 100% sure until Merom is actualy realeased..

I hope you mean socket 479 ;)

Should be compatible. From what i've heard, you can slap a Merom in a Yonah laptop and it'll work.

so is buying core duo now and upgrading to merom a viable solution?
Or should i just stick to what i have, and wait for core 2 duo(conroe)?

I don't know what your needs are now and what you currently have so I could not recommend what you should do about upgrading.

Also, BTW, Core 2 Duo is the name for both Merom (Mobile) and Conroe (Desktop) based chips.

I'm sure it'll be best to wait, and then you can use the money you saved from not buying both a yonah and merom to get a decent board for less than the Aopen, and a more powerful conroe, better graphics etc etc.
I guess it really matters on how much you want to wait, might be around 2-3 months before you can get your hands on one, but I'm sure you would be able to survive on your current rig.

i guess u are right. But the merom does seem to be a tempting solution.
I think depending on prices and relative performance,i'll get either the conroe or merom.
