question on memory for my desktop???

i am looking to upgrade my memory. right now i have a ddr 256mb pc 2100 chip. i am looking to add a 512 along with the 256. do i have to buy a ddr 512mb pc 2100 or can i put in a (for example) ddr 512mb pc 2700, ddr 512mb 3700??? these last two are just examples... please help

Yeah, most would just get some PC3200 (DDR 400) to add in. This will "downclock" itself to match the speed of the PC2100 stuff.
