I've read through the review on the Iwill KK266 mobo in the anandtech review. I was wondering about the north bridge that is has.

According to anandtech, the north bridge doesn't have a HSF. Instead, there is just a heat sink. They also note that there isn't any thermal compound between the heatsink and north bridge either.

I know that they were able to place a HSF unit from an EPoX 8KTA3 mobo over the north bridge. I'd be interested in doing the same. I see that in the pictures, the north bridge hsf is manufactured by aavid. Does anyone know where I can find this particular fan, other than an EPoX board?

Also, once I get a suitable HSF, should I also utilize a thermal compound as well?

North Bridge is the ALi M1647 MAGIK chipset.

I just glued on a fan I had lying around on the greenie and left it at that. I am absolutely stable at 140FSB - I do not like higher FSB speeds since all components are o/clocked as well.

You don't really need a HS on the northbridge. Lot's of folks are running fsb in the 150's with no problems at all. See their rigs and scores over at:

A blue orb would look cool though!

fergus, hi,

how is the board did you have any trouble with this stupid Jumper to change to 133MHz? What modifications did you do on your L1?

How is the onboard audio, no digital quality needed will it be enough?

And the RAM is it working allright? How high can you get the FSB, any higher that that? And what cooler do you use?

please let me know I am about to get this board...

ICQ MSN or what sent me a PS if oyu want...

You don't really need a fan on the chipset, just a heatsink. I put thermal grease on my chipset, I don't know if it made any difference or not but its there :).

Andy, no, he is talking about the KK266, not KA266. The KK266 has the 8363A North Bridge.

And joshInAlaska - for your information, in the review they say that for FSB higher than 160, you might need an hsf unit. if you just run your system at 140 or so, just the heatsink is fine
