Question on IP Configuration

I¡¯m getting ready to take on Win2K Server and ran into this tough question. If someone could offer insight to share, I¡¯d appreciate it very much.

Contoso has a 100 Base-SX Gigabit network. You are the administrator of Contoso. All servers on the network are configured with static IP addresses. You install a new Windows 2000 Server computer named Dallas. Dallas has an integrated Plug and Play network adapter.

You want to join Dallas to Active Directory on the network. However, the integrated network adapter is not compatible with the network. You obtain a new, hot-swappable Acme Gigabit Fiber-SX Server network adapter that is compatible with the network, and you insert it into a PCI slot while Dallas is running. You disable the integrated Plug and Play network adapter. You need to configure an IP address for Dallas. You run the ipconfig /all command and receive the response shown in the exhibit.

You need to be able to configure an IP address for the Acme Gigabit Fiber-SX Server network adapter on Dallas.

What should you do?

ipconfig /all should show all adapters, and none are shown. Either the device is disabled in the BIOS or OS, or drivers are not installed and Windows doesn't know to recognize it as a nic.

What to do? install drivers and enable the card I guess.

Also, I've never used a mobo with hot-swappable PCI slots/cards.

Come to think of it, how is it hot-swappable if I have to turn off the computer to open it?

Come to think of it, how is it hot-swappable if I have to turn off the computer to open it?

Most all servers have hot-swappable PCI slots. you just open a little door, power down the slot with a little button, insert card, power slot on.
