Question on Hard drive features

Hey im thinking about getting another internal hd. What i want to know is

1) Features like perpendicular recording do i need to set my sata drive as ahci or will it work when the sata is set to ide?


2) If i install sata drives as ide can i switch them to Ahci without having to reinstall the os

1) Perpendicular recording is done by the drive hardware not the controller.

2) You would have to reinstall Vista or do some registry tweaks as AHCI uses a differant driver and by default it is not loaded duiring boot time and will cause a 0x0000007B error.
