question on gigabit.

I'm wondering if this wouldbe possible. I have a 24 port 10/100 switch here at home, and I want my server to have gigabit going into the switch, but I know thats not possible since its only a 10/100. so I'm wondering If I bought a gigabit switch(say 4 ports) would I be able to have 3 ports feed the 10/100 switch? I'm guessing no, but not for sure

only if yor switch supports trunking... find my thread in networking (where this thread should be btw) and search for gigabit and the standard needed is listed by a member.

Good luck.. btw, it's really hard to even come close to maxing out gigabit and unless you need to stream at over 13 megs a second, there is no need for gigabit.

Its mainly just so I can say I have it😀 and on the extremly rare occasion all 3 pc's are pulling a big file from the server. Thanks for the info.

well, I can understand that.... I have 3 24 port 10/100 switches and a 16 port gigbit switch. I havn't noticed any difference yet but until I start puling a lot of files from my servers, I won't feel it.

anyhow, good luck!

it would be much cheaper to just get a 16 port unmanaged gigabit switch. i doubt they even make managed switches that are 4 ports, and in any case, they will be very very pricey.

It is working outside now...

The A records were pointing to the wrong box. 😱

You may have to flush your DNS resolver cache to see it correctly.

Cheers!
