question on dell HSF

I ordered a dell hsf for my dell server for my second proc. My question is, theres a small metal someting on the hsf where the proc is against it. I'm assuming this is for thermal transfer. should I just use that, or put my as3 on it(rip the metal stuff off)
 
anyone use a dell hsf b4? Think I'll probably just scrape it off and use as3, or maybe look into getting 2 new hsf combos. Seems to be running about 45 on load, so while not horrible there is room for improvement
