Question on CrossfireX on P45- does it have this capability?

I just ordered a P45 motherboard that supports ATI's CrossfireX. I am moving all my internals of my current desktop onto the new board- this includes a 4870-1GB graphics card. My question is this: With CrossfireX, can a less capable card be paired with a performance card in such a way that 2D/low power usage will utilize the less capable card only, and leave the performance card idle/off?
I know hybrid crossfire implements a similar feature, but I'd like to know if CrossfireX can do this too- I'd be great if I could plop a 4830 in my system and only have that consuming power and generating heat when I'm not gaming or folding.

They kinda sorta got rid of that functionality. Hybrid Crossfire is pretty much only a feature of AMD IGPs paired with a 4350.
