Question on cords that came with my HYUNDAI L90D+

Hey,
Well, I got my monitor for Christmas yesterday, HYUNDAI L90D+. It came with the power cord, the sound cord, and two cords for connecting to the computer for the visual. I know one is for that since I am using it right now, its the smaller one with the blue end. The other cord was larger, and had white ends. Is this called DVI or something? I thought so, and thought it was beter, so I plugged it in first, but it said there was no connection or something to that nature. Anyways, whats the white tipped cord, and is it better than the blue tipped one I have in. THANKS!
 
The white one is DVI, the blue one is VGA.
I personally don't see any difference between one or the other.
Then again, I ain't gaming.
