Question on changing mobo's w/WinXP (Abit KT7/KT7A)

My KT7 motherboard recently started acting up on me, so I have been looking for a replacement. However, because the Abit KT7 (non-RAID) is so hard to find and the KT7A (or KT7-RAID) are more common, if I replace my motherboard with one of the mentioned once, will I have problems booting into WinXP? I know that if you completely change your system architecture then chances are that you'll have to re-install Windows.

Here are my specs:

Athlon 1Ghz Thunderbird
512MB PC133 SDRAM
PNY Geforce4 Ti4200 AGP card
Soundblaster Live Value
Tekram U2W SCSI card
2 UW SCSI drives
Plextor SCSI CD-ROM and CD-R

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure about that setup, but I have done something simular in the past. It worked great, just booted up and instaled the driver CD and all was well. Even though it worked well for me I am still an beleiver in the old reformat on about any change.

I just went from an msi neo 2 nforce to an asus a8v deluxe via. I missed the bios and booted right into windows.....I expected an explosion or something but to my surprise xp loaded just fine. I just rebooted and reinstalled windows and via drivers......so I would think you should be able to boot into windows

I've swtiched out several mobos.....only had windows xp fail to boot once, but I had BSOD's a few times unitl I formated. Sort of random I guess.

I updated my father-in-laws rig last month from 1 GHz thunderbird with Via chipset to Barton 2800+ on nForce2 platform ... had backed up everything and to my surprise it booted into windows XP and all I had to do was install the mobo drivers 🙂
