I was trying to sell one of my laptop on ebay and somebody contacted me and he would buy it if I can do COD.
First I said I won't but after reading up COD rules on courier (canadapost) website and I don't see why I shouldn't use it as long as all the extra fees are paid for by the buyer.
But to be safe, I'm asking around here to be little cautious.
Is there a risk doing COD? (cash or money order only payment option, no personal cheque).
What if I shipped by COD and the buyer decided not to pay for the item. will the courier send the item back to me without any charge? or should I pay for returning fees as well?

thanks in advance.

COC? Oops?

EDIT : To be of some use...I'd rather get paid for something before giving it to said buyer. Just feels...safe.

I know... that's the best way for me.
But it's not an option. I guess he had a bad experience with sending payment up front or something.
I'm asking if there's a risk involved for me to do COD if that's the only option to do the transaction.

Quite a few years ago, I sent a number of notebooks COD. Jerk refused the shipment. Fedex was calling me every day trying to get rid of the packages. I think they were going to make me pay for return shipping, but i'm not sure. Luckily I found another buyer in the area.

a lot of the products sold on TV always say no CODs for some reason...and for that reason alone, i would say no to CODs as well :)

That's exactly what I was worried about. what if I sent the package and the buyer refuse to take it.. well, thanks for sharing your experience.

I may ask for shipping x 2 as a non-refundable deposit so I get protected.

thanks

That sounds like an excellent idea. Don't let him put the risk on your end just to make the sale, there's plenty more buyers out there.

Don't do it. COD scams are still common. Buyer gives you the address of some neighborhood he/she has staked out. Hangs out in that particular owner's garage while the real owners are away at work. Driver comes around and does the COD, with the buyer passing a fake or cancelled money order. Drivers are not bank tellers, they do not care if the note is fake or not. You then get mailed a worthless bank note, out of your item, and have really zero recourse because the address you shipped the package to is not the one who really took your package.
