Question on building new pc

Let me know if what I am think is correct or not.

After you put everything together, when you first boot you have to go to BIOS and (hopefully BIOS will automatically set everyting to stock specs, I have a DFI partylan nf4, dunno if it will do that or not), and set boot to CD/DVD ROM. Then I will pop in a windows xp installation CD and it will then format my hard drive and install the OS. Am I missing anything here?

Since it's a blank HD, does OEM matter here? I found it cheaper than retail version.

you should almost always buy an oem HD. there is no advantage to getting a retail.

now, dont own that board, but, there might be some things in the bios you have to set up in the bios before you start installing windows. but, if not, just pop in the cd, and install windows.

Make sure you delete any current partitions on the drive and then re-partition before you do the format. I would format using NTFS.

Edit: I would also make sure that I have studied all of the BIOS settings before installing the operating system.

Also, you should probably flash/update the BIOS before you do any of the above, if you have not already do so.

You format with NTFS by default with the windows xp cd, so its almost not a question, unless your using an older version of windows.

Just get into BIOS and set the CD-rom/DVD as first, put the install disc in and restart...and just click next a couple of times on the windows xp installation and you're good to go 😛
