Question on Budget Gaming Rig

Today I bought an Epox 9NPA+ SLI to begin the process of making myself a new rig. My AMD XP 1ghz and gforce mx 32mg just isnt cutting it.

My plan as of now:

EPOX EP-9NPA + SLI
AMD Athlon 64 3700+
WD Caviar SE16 250GB SATA II
Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2PT
eVGA 6800 GS PCI-E 256MB

Im looking to play CS Source, Fear, BF2, DOOM, etc. and whatever else might come out this year.

Will I be able to get the performance from the 6800 GS to last me a year? I have read that it OCs good and I plan to do so a little bit.

I wanted to get this card because of the price ($195 with $20 rebate) and the intention to purchase another in a couple months to run in SLI.

Anyone think this would be a good setup? Will the gain from a 2nd card be worth it? Thanks for the advice.

That's a good setup, I would trade mine for it 😛. I think that going SLI usually gives you another 50% increase in FPS. Don't take my word for it, wait and see if others agree 😉

Thanks.

I wonder, if you overclock the video card using the NV tweak program, and your running in sli, do both cards run at those speeds?

i believe u will be happy with ur card for some time. the setup looks good and balanced. Thing with SLI is that u may consider a faster single card upgrade over a SLI setup of two slower clocked cards. but i think when u have the 6800gs u wont ask for SLI for some time cuz it does a good job in 1280x1024, max Details etc.
