question on browsing network with Suse/ XP

hey everyone:
installed SuSe 9.1 on my spare box, ( went effortlessly), running XP on my main rig: both tied into a Linksys router. Configured my network card on the SuSe box, then tried to browse files on the XP machine.
Here is what happens: I click Network Browsing, then Windows Network, then my workgroup, then my box: I see all drives listed there. When I click on a drive, I get a "authorization Dialog" box show up. I have tried every password I use, and then some, I CANNOT get the prompt to accept any password.
When I installed SuSe, I used a very basic (temporary) password so I would not forget. I have tried using "root" and "admin" as usernames as well ( besides" dave")- still no good. Also, I have tried leaving the password line blank, as well as the user line- still no good.
I have verified that the drives I am trying to access on the XP box are shared. Also, I have tried the XP passwords, thinking the prompt is actually from the XP machine.

Any clues?

Dave

Is the user account on the Linux box (that you are using) a member of any user group (or for that matter a user) on the XP box?

The password prompt is probably for the XP box. Make sure you use the username and password for that machine. If the usernames and passwords for each box match, it might make things easier.

Other than that, I'd look at the manpage for smbmount or whatever.

nOcmonkey: definitely for the XP box, as I saw, using Down/Up Meter, that there was a ping to that box every time I tried a new password and hit "enter".

Supaxi: that was the right format, I am now getting past the prompt: however I now get a "network is unreacheable" internal error.
Very weird, as I can ping each box in either direction.
edblor: both boxes are set as members of the same workgroup.
