Question on Apartment/Rent

I and 6 other guys want to share a 4 bed room apartment where 2 people get single and 4 people are sharing, (2 in each room) Now the double rooms are slighty larger, and I assumed total rent would be divided by rooom, so...if rent is 2000, then 2000/4 = 500 per room. However some of them seem to think it should be divided by people and then the doubles pay slighty less and singles slighty more.

Which is correct?

I think this one is up to the people who are paying, though I would think that singles should be paying more.

Whichever method everybody agrees on that gets rent paid is the best. 🙂

You could just take the ultra-fair route and have each person pay 333$.

The singles should be paying more, but not twice as much as those sharing rooms. That is too much, IMHO. I would make the singles pay $400 each, and the doubles each pay $300.

How many bathrooms are involved? Any of the singles get their own?

I hardly think that is fair to the people sharing the room versus someone getting their own....

singles should be paying more than doubles... but i don't know about going per room... you have the common areas to consider too... i would say something like... if rent were 2000, 2000/6 (kitchen + living room), 333/room + 666/6 people for common areas...

Did anybody else follow that? That confused the hell out of me. I need more coffee I think....

True, I guess.

Okay, then 400 for the singles and 300 for the doubles, as rgwalt suggested. I guess that's more fair, when you look at it that way.

ok, like.... you have rent... 2000

and then you have all the rooms... 4 bedrooms + kitchen + living room = 6 "rooms"

so each person pays for their portion of a room (someone staying in a double pays for 1/2 a room, someone staying in a single pays for 1 room)

and each person pays for their portion of the common areas, which in the case of 2000 is 666/6 people, or 111...

but if it were me, unless there's a reason for choosing 400 and 300 rather than just pulling the #'s out of ur head, i'd be iffy... and if it were only 100 bucks more, i'd want my own room too!! shoot.... 😛

Ok. Makes a bit more sense. never heard of paying for the common room, because you could argue that since its shared equally, why factor it in. either way works well i guess. I dunno, none of my 4 roommates pay rent, its all on me.

The 400 and 300 seems like good numbers, just don't know where you came up with them.

ahh davis 🙂 yeah, both have shared bathrooms... the 400/300 splits seems pretty fair to me.
