Question on an oldie

Friend of mine bought an Asus CUR-DLS mother board asnd tried a old Celly 600 in it and it booted and all fine as a PIII 850 per the bios. He then bought a pair of PIII 866's (both SL4zj , 866/256/133/1.75 volt) from ebay. When he install both CPU's it would not boot and there was a click sound from MB, didn't try these in another MB before, and now we've tried them in a couple of other MB's and they won't boot (I'd say their dead), the Celly 600 will still boot in the CUR-DLS and shows it to be a PIII 850. The Question I have is what CPU does this board need, the manual says PIII coppermine 550 - 1ghz, that's it nothing else specified (socket 370 of course). Is it that he got screwed on the CPU's or did he kill the with the MB? He really wants to get this thing up and running, but doesn't want to keep killing CPU's. So if any one can give me some advice please do, I've never messed with multi CPU's. Thanks in advance.

I'd say take the CPU's lot number (SL4ZJ), visit Intel's site to inquire their S-spec identification database to see what these CPUs are, and whether they're dual capable at all.
