Question on Airline Tickets

Is it typically cheaper to buy tickets through Expedia/Priceline close to the day you want to leave or in advance? I always thought they got cheaper closer to the date, but using next week in my searches was quite a bit more expensive than a couple of weeks out.

As a general rule tickets are as always cheaper the farther ahead you book them.

It's usually cheaper to buy tickets in advance. 21 days or more helps.

I used to be a procrastinator but I don't get around to doing it any more.

Sometimes some airlines have specials where you can buy certain tickets for really cheap within 48 hours of the flight itself. Of course, those are usually tickets to Boise or Yemen.
