So I have been trying to book the wife and I some tickets to Europe and we live in Kansas City so I am looking at the other Major Cities/Airports (new york, boston, washington, chicago) for prices because I've found it's usually cheaper to book a flight to that city and then fly from there to europe rather than booking straight from Kansas City. When I was checking on prices I came across this:

Why is it more expensive to fly the same exact flight from chicago to dublin than it is to fly from new york to chicago to dublin (ending up on the same exact flight from chicago to dublin)
Anyone think I can call the airline and book the NYC-CHI-DUB part but tell them I don't need to fly from NYC-CHI? My main reasoning is it's cheaper/quicker/more convenient for me to fly from kansas city to chicago than it is from kansas city to new york.
Cliffs:
Looking at airline prices
Price from new york to chicago to dublin is 143 dollars cheaper if you book the 2nd part of the flight (the chicago to dublin part) by itself.
