Question on a dreamcast......

If this is the wrong place let me know where to take this......

A friend was playing a dreamcast with some non dreamcast controllers.... His dreamcast quit working so he tried it out on his brothers system just to make sure it wasn't his system and boom same thing.......... And then again on his other brothers.... now were not sure it is the controllers but has anyone heard of somthing like this happening.....

There is no reason why non-official Dreamcast controllers should break your console.
